Workout After Injectables: How Long Should You Wait?

CONTACT US

Arizona’s active lifestyle makes fitness a big part of everyday life — from early morning hikes up Camelback Mountain to afternoon spin classes and gym sessions. But if you’ve recently had Botox®, Xeomin®, or dermal filler injections, you might be wondering how soon you can get back to your workout routine.

At Authentic Medical, PLLC, with locations in Scottsdale and Glendale, we help patients enjoy beautiful, natural results while staying active and healthy. Here’s what you should know about exercising after injectables.

Why You Should Wait to Exercise

Exercise increases blood flow, heart rate, and body temperature — all of which can impact how your injectables settle. Working out too soon may:

  • Increase swelling or bruising
  • Cause product migration (especially with dermal fillers)
  • Reduce the longevity or evenness of results
  • Delay healing in sensitive injection areas

Giving your skin and muscles time to rest ensures your results look balanced, smooth, and natural.

How Long to Wait Before Working Out

For Botox® and Xeomin®

Wait at least 24 hours before resuming exercise. This gives the product time to bind to targeted muscles without risk of spreading to nearby areas.

For Dermal Fillers

Avoid strenuous workouts for 48 hours after treatment. Fillers need a little more time to integrate with surrounding tissue. Early movement, sweating, or increased blood flow can affect how the filler settles.

For Microneedling, PRP, or Skinvive™

Give your skin 24–48 hours before returning to activities that cause heavy sweating. Perspiration can irritate the skin or introduce bacteria to healing microchannels.

Signs You May Need More Recovery Time

If you notice lingering redness, swelling, or tenderness, it’s best to delay intense exercise another day or two. Listen to your body and follow your provider’s recommendations for a safe, smooth recovery.

Gentle Activities You Can Do Instead

If you’re eager to move, try low-intensity options such as:

  • A short walk in the shade
  • Gentle stretching or yoga (avoiding positions that put pressure on the face)
  • Deep breathing or light mobility work

These help keep you active without interfering with your aesthetic results.

When It’s Safe to Resume Full Workouts

Once 48 hours have passed and any swelling has resolved, you can safely return to your regular workout routine. Always check in with your provider if you’re unsure, especially after filler treatments in areas like the lips or cheeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sweat after Botox or filler?
It’s best to avoid sweating for 24 hours after Botox and 48 hours after filler. Sweat increases heat and circulation, which can cause product movement or irritation.

What happens if I work out too soon?
You may notice more swelling or uneven results. This usually isn’t serious but can affect your final outcome.

Can I do yoga after injectables?
Skip hot yoga or any class with inverted poses for 24–48 hours, as these increase pressure and heat in the treated areas.

Is walking okay after injections?
Yes! Light walking is safe and even helps promote circulation without excessive heat or strain.

Balance Your Beauty and Your Fitness
