Planning a trip after your favorite aesthetic treatment? Whether you’re jetting off for a weekend getaway or lounging poolside here in Arizona, it’s important to understand how travel, heat, and sun exposure can affect your post-treatment recovery and results.

At Authentic Medical, PLLC, with locations in Scottsdale and Glendale, our licensed medical team helps patients look and feel their best—at home or on vacation—by offering expert aftercare and travel guidance.

Flying After Botox® or Dermal Fillers

Air travel soon after injectables can increase your risk of swelling or discomfort due to cabin pressure and dry air. While you can fly after most treatments, it’s best to wait:

  • 24 hours after Botox® or Xeomin®
  • 48 hours after dermal fillers
  • 3–5 days after microneedling, PRP/PRF, or Skinvive™ treatments

Why Wait?

Airplane cabins have low humidity, which can dry out your skin. Changes in air pressure may also cause temporary swelling, especially in areas where filler was recently placed. Waiting allows your results to settle and reduces irritation.

Travel Tip: Stay hydrated, apply a gentle moisturizer, and bring a hydrating mist on board. Avoid touching or pressing on your face during your flight.

Pools and Hot Tubs: When It’s Safe to Swim

After injectables or microneedling, your skin needs time to heal before exposure to bacteria and heat. Avoid:

  • Pools, oceans, and hot tubs for at least 48 hours after Botox and 5–7 days after filler or microneedling.

These environments can increase infection risk or irritation while your skin is still healing.

Poolside Tip: Once cleared by your provider, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ before swimming and reapply every two hours. Stick to shaded cabanas or umbrellas when possible.

Sun Exposure: Protecting Your Results

Arizona and tropical destinations share one thing—intense UV exposure. After any injectable or skin treatment, your skin is more sensitive to sunlight. Direct exposure too soon can lead to inflammation, pigment changes, or quicker breakdown of collagen.

Follow these sun-safety tips:

  • Avoid direct sunlight for at least 48 hours after injections.
  • Always wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ (zinc or titanium-based is best).
  • Pair your sunscreen with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours, especially if you’re swimming or sweating.

Bonus Tip: Keep your skin hydrated with a quality hyaluronic acid serum or consider an IV therapy session before your trip for total hydration support.

How to Plan Treatments Before a Trip

If you have an event or vacation planned, schedule your injectables at least 1–2 weeks in advance. This allows time for any minor swelling or bruising to resolve so you look refreshed and confident on your trip.

Our team at Authentic Medical, PLLC offers customized pre-travel planning for aesthetic patients, helping you look your best with safe, realistic timing.

Can I swim after filler or microneedling?
Wait at least 5–7 days to prevent irritation or infection.

Does sun exposure affect my results?
Yes. Excessive UV exposure can increase swelling and break down collagen faster, shortening the lifespan of fillers.
